Renee LaFranca (Fort Mill Police mugshot)

Fort Mill police got an assist from the fire department early Sunday in arresting a local woman who had barricaded herself in her boyfriend’s residence at Avery Lake Apartments.

Officers found Renee LaFranca hiding underneath a child’s bed on Starnes Point Court in Fort Mill, a report says. She was charged with resisting arrest and entering premises after warning.

To get into apartment at 2 in the morning, police needed a fire-department ladder to reach the second floor and slip into the back sliding door, which the boyfriend said was unlocked.

A police report describes what led up to the police standoff:

Officers responded to a 911 hangup and found the caller inside his vehicle with his two children. The man told officers that he called 911 when his girlfriend woke him up acting irate. So he called 911 but then decided to grab his two children and leave.

The 31-year-old woman wouldn’t come out of the apartment for police and placed items to block their entrance. But officers climbed the fire-department ladder, cleared her barricade and found the suspect under the bed. Police say the suspect was on trespass warning and wasn’t even supposed to be at her boyfriend’s residence.

A report lists the woman’s residence as Saddle Ridge Road in Fort Mill. She was processed at the Fort Mill Police Department and later released.
