Tyrique Boyce

A local man has been charged with felony DUI after killing a 3-year-old boy riding in his vehicle when he wrecked early Friday near Fort Mill High School.

Tyrique Boyce, 26, of Bolin Circle, admitted drinking at a bar at Kingsley before getting behind the wheel with a male passenger and the child, authorities said.

Boyce and the child were unrestrained when he lost control of his 2015 Chevrolet Camaro just after midnight Friday on Munn Road near the high school, according to Capt. Steven Bivins with the Fort Mill Police Department. The driver overturned and struck a tree.

“The three-year-old child was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” Capt. Bivins said. “The driver and adult passenger were transported to an area hospital.”

Boyce was treated for lacerations before being taken to jail. The adult male passenger, identified as 19-year-old Ca’Mario Boyce of Corapeake, N.C., sustained a broken arm in the wreck. Capt. Bivins declined to identify the relationship of the driver to his passengers, saying he was waiting on the coroner to notify family.

The driver is charged with felony DUI with death, felony DUI with great bodily injury, child endangerment, seat belt violation and a child safety restraint violation.

Boyce has at least four speeding tickets on his record in York County dating back to 2014, including a charge two months ago for driving vehicle at greater speed than is reasonable. He also has previous charges for not wearing his seat belt.
