The victim of a brazen smash and grab outside Miller Street Dance Academy told authorities she was only gone for a minute Thursday afternoon when the crime occurred.

When the woman returned to her 2021 Mazda CX-5, her window was busted and her black Michael Kors purse was missing, a report says. The car was parked behind the studio on Market Street in Baxter Village in Fort Mill.

A witness told officers that she saw a Black male subject with sagging jeans breaking into the vehicle and taking the purse.

“The witness stated that she saw the subject get into a grey sedan with a Florida tag and take off,” a report said. “The witness stated that she saw the trunk open as he drove off. She believes the subject was driving but is unsure.”

Deputies observed four attempts on the front driver’s window to be broken. The back left passenger window was ultimately broken to get inside.

“No video cameras were seen or observed facing the incident location,” a report says.

Inside the victim’s $400 purse was two checkbooks, two debit cards, two credit cards, a South Carolina driver’s license, a medical card, a Home Depot card, a Sam’s card, and $8 cash.
