Nicole Claire Tanner, 26, of Charlotte, left, was charged in the death of driver 32-year-old Ajibril Blake of Charlotte, right.

A woman was impaired when she drove the wrong way Tuesday night on I-77 North in Fort Mill and killed another driver, authorities said.

Nicole Claire Tanner, 26, of Charlotte, was charged Wednesday morning with felony DUI and open container in the death of driver 32-year-old Ajibril Blake of Charlotte.

Blake was a driver of a car that was hit head-on by a wrong way driver, Coroner Sabrina Gast said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say that Tanner was driving a 2021 Toyota SUV the wrong way near mile marker 84 around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday when she struck Blake’s 2007 Jeep SUV, who was headed north in the correct lane.

The S.C. Highway Patrol and the Coroner’s Office are investigating. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.
