Fort Mill police are investigating a death at a home on Calhoun Street.

On Monday evening, officers responded to 402 Calhoun Street and discovered a deceased person in the home, according to FMPD Maj. Bryan Zachary.

“An investigation is ongoing, and there is no further information available at this time,” he said by email.

John Koehler, 96, was reportedly found on the bathroom floor in the fetal position covered with a sheet in an advanced state of decomposition. (Story continues below)

The Fort Mill Sun received reports that Koehler was found after family asked for a welfare check on him. The source said that his decomposed body was found inside the home and he may have been dead for as long as a year.

A relative living in the home was reportedly interviewed by police, but authorities have not confirmed that. Maj. Zachary said no charges or arrests have been made in the case.
