A double shooting at the H&R Block in downtown Fort Mill was a murder-suicide between a son and his mother-in-law, according to Coroner Sabrina Gast.

Deborah Elaine Buchanan, 68, of Charlotte, died from a gunshot wound.  The second decedent, 39-year-old James Alexander Vinton of Rock Hill, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the coroner said.

“Both decedents died at the scene,” she said in a press release. “Mr. Vinton was a son-in-law to Ms. Buchanan.”

Fort Mill police responded about 1:13 p.m. Monday to 239 Main Street, according to police Maj. Bryan Zachary.

“Upon the officers arrival at the scene, two persons were located, and determined to be deceased,” he said in a press release.

Autopsy and toxicology test results are pending.
