Fort Mill police say an elderly resident was left alone all weekend by a local home care company, bedridden with only a bottle of water at her bedside.

The regular caretaker left the 83-year-old woman on Friday and went to Charleston to see her boyfriend. “(She) had called out to work sick,” a police report says.

A supervisor for the Rock Hill company was aware the patient would be left alone but “failed to coordinate a caretaker” to be with the woman, the police report says.

On Sunday afternoon, a company representative arrived at the patient’s home on Starnes Pointe Court and found the woman unable to get out of bed to open the door. The victim told the representative by phone that she was “very ill.”

“(She) was unable to get out of bed from Friday night to Sunday afternoon and only had a bottle of water next to the bed,” a report says.

The woman was transported by ambulance to CMC-Pineville for evaluation.

A company representative was described as “uncooperative” by police. An investigation is ongoing, and a company supervisor told FortMillSun.com that he is conducting his own internal investigation.
