A Fort Mill mother and her adult son were found dead in their home Tuesday night from apparent gunshot wounds, authorities said.

A suspect has not been announced, but sheriff’s spokesman Trent Faris said investigators don’t believe this was a random act of violence. He said commenting on a possible suspect would jeopardize the investigation.

Betty Reynolds, 71, and her son, Barry Reynolds, 40, were found deceased at 937 Saddle Ridge Road, Coroner Sabrina Gast said in a press release to local media. The discovery came after officers went there for a well-being check.

Currently, no suspects are in custody and no motive has been determined, Faris said.

Patrick Schneider, the brother of Betty Reynolds, posted a Facebook message on Wednesday, saying his sister and her son were “taken in a home invasion last night.” Authorities did not confirm that.

The husband of Betty Reynolds, Glenn Alan Reynolds, died two years ago at the age of 69. An obituary for him said the Reynolds family moved to Fort Mill from Ohio in 1987. His obituary indicated Barry was his only son.
