Shatem Duop

York County authorities captured a car thief Monday after the suspect got the stolen vehicle stuck in a giant pothole on Highway 51 at Flint Hill Road.

Deputies were called to assist motorist Shatem Duop on Monday when the man got a 2005 Chevrolet Impala “stuck in a giant pothole,” according to a sheriff’s report.

“Upon running the license plate,” the report says, “deputies were notified the vehicle was reported stolen from North Carolina. Duop also had three additional bench warrants for Failure to Appear with York County.”

Duop, 32, was taken into custody and transported to the York County Detention Center for being in possession of the stolen vehicle. The failure to appear warrants are connected to his arrest last year for DUI, driving under suspension and leaving the scene of an accident.
