A Fort Mill man told police Tuesday that he was robbed at gunpoint by two masked men not far from Steel Street Park.

Just after dusk Tuesday, the 43-year-old victim was walking on McGee Street when two black males exited the wood line wearing masks, a report says. As they ran toward the victim, one of them presented a gun and assaulted him, striking him in the face with the firearm. The unarmed man reached into the victim’s pocket and stole $40 cash.

“(The victim) tried to fight back and take the gun from him, but was unsuccessful,” a report says. “While the incident was taking place, a vehicle pulled into a neighboring residence and the two males ran into the woods and ran toward Steele Street Park.”

The victim then went to Joe Louis Street and had his sister notify police. Fort Mill police asked the sheriff’s K-9 unit to assist, but that yielded no results.

A witness who lives nearby said she witnessed the two men assaulting the victim and ran inside to call police. The woman said she has security cameras but they were not recording at the time.

No arrests have been announced.
