Construction has begun on the town’s new $3.3 million Amphitheater project at Walter Y. Elisha Park in Fort Mill along with plans for new restroom facilities and an upgrade in parking, authorities said.

“The new 2,400-square-foot amphitheater will be located in the southern end of Walter Y. Elisha Park and will feature a covered stage,” Public Relations Manager Chris Sardelli said in a press release. “With this new venue, the Town of Fort Mill is looking forward to offering a variety of activities for the community, from concerts and plays to movies and symphonies.”

Crews with Simon & Watson Construction Inc. will increase parking at the site and construct two new restroom facilities, including one next to the amphitheater and another at Calhoun Street Park.

Because of the construction, the lower parking lot off Ardrey Street at the park will be closed beginning July 1 until further notice. Town officials recommend the public use the parking lot at Calhoun Street Park (203 Calhoun Street) or the small gravel lot off Looms Way to access Walter Elisha Park. Signs will mark the lots.
