Spratt Building, 215 Main Street, Fort Mill

The Fort Mill Town Council voted unanimously Monday to sell the historic Spratt Building on Main Street.

The old Banks Street Gym will have upgrades in its transition to Fort Mill Community Center.

The sale will help fund upgrades to the Fort Mill Community Center, formerly known as Banks Street Gym, according to Mayor Guynn Savage.

The Spratt Building, located at 215 Main Street,  has served as a special event center for years. Once a bank, the building was constructed in 1911 and was recently renovated to enhance the amenities offered for events.

The Fort Mill Sun asked about the purchaser, but “information about the buyer was not discussed at the Town Council meeting,” Public Relations Manager Chris Sardelli said.

The council is approving the sale per a contract dated Jan. 14, 2020, but one more reading is needed by council.

“The prospective buyer is expected to invest a sizable amount of money in the property and they are asking for an ordinance before they invest in due diligence funds,” said Town Manager Davy Broom at the meeting.

The Spratt Building has been used for many events in the past, including wedding receptions and other gatherings.
