A 16-year-old Chester boy has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting that injured a teen girl Wednesday night on Forest Ridge Drive in Fort Mill, authorities said.
FMPD Maj. Bryan Zachary sent this press release:
“As a result of investigation into the aforementioned Forest Ridge Apartments shooting incident, Fort Mill Police Department detectives have arrested and charged a 16 year-old male juvenile, from Chester, South Carolina, with Attempted Murder. The arrest took place earlier (Friday) morning, and the defendant has since been transferred into the custody of the SC Department of Juvenile Justice, pending prosecution.”
Fort Mill police say a 16-year-old girl was shot Wednesday night on Forest Ridge Drive. Here’s what we know:
When police arrived at 1707 Forest Ridge Drive, the victim said she was in front of her apartment with friends and family talking when an “unknown assailant” fired several rounds in their direction.
The girl was shot and then rushed to Piedmont Medical Center by one of the bystanders. No one else was struck, and the suspect was no longer on the scene. The juvenile victim was not named by police.
Police spokesman Maj. Bryan Zachary said that it appears the suspect is also a juvenile and possibly known by the victim or other witnesses.
This is the same neighborhood where shootings injured two juveniles in August that were tied to older teens from Lancaster.
