Eleven schools in the Fort Mill School district have been named by the S.C. Department of Education as Palmetto Gold or Palmetto Silver Award winners for their student academic performance spanning the last two school years.

The annual awards were established by the State Legislature to recognize and reward schools for high levels of academic achievement. Since no awards were announced last year, this year’s list recognizes schools for both 2018 and 2019.

The eleven schools received 19 combined honors. The award is given based on criteria approved by the State Board of Education earlier this year and demonstrated performance on the 2018 and 2019 report cards. Criteria for selection includes attaining high levels of academic achievement, attaining high rates of growth and making substantial progress in closing the achievement gap between disaggregated groups.
