The Arbors at Fort Mill

A Fort Mill teen accidentally shot himself in the hand last week at an apartment complex, according to a sheriff’s report.

Ajmal Johnson, 19, told authorities that he was reaching for a a friend’s backpack when a Taurus 9mm gun went off, hitting his index finger on his left hand.

“Ajmal stated the bag belonged to his friend who has been out of the country for about 6 months working in Germany,” a report says. “Ajmal stated he forgot the gun was in the bag.”

The teen’s mother was in the other room and thought the bang sound was something falling off the shelf. But her son came in and told her to take him to the hospital.

Deputies met with them at CMC Steelcreek. Officers went back to the apartment complex, located at The Arbors at Fort Mill, on Berkley Hall Way.

“The gun was found in the back pack where Ajmal said it would be,” the report says. “There was no sign of foul play.”
