Lamanda Thomas (Fort Mill Police mugshot)

A local woman has been charged with insurance fraud for making up a story about an accident outside Fort Mill Middle School, police said.

Lamanda Thomas, 26, of Steele Street, Fort Mill, was charged last week with presenting false claim for insurance payment.

The arrest follows an investigation into a May report when Thomas said her 2011 Nissan Versa had been struck in the middle school parking lot, a police report says. A senior investigator with Geico Insurance Company contacted Fort Mill police to say that he determined that the woman’s claim was a lie.

Police called the woman three times and left voice mail messages to get her side, but she refused to call them back. So an officer obtained a warrant against her this month, and she was arrested July 16.
