Nation Ford High School's Theater Department presents "Young Frankenstein" on March 21-24, 2019.

If Tuesday’s dress rehearsal of “Young Frankenstein” at Nation Ford High School is any indication, the community should expect a thrill when the musical comedy opens a four-day run on Thursday.

Students who got a sneak peek of the Mel Brooks parody called it “hilarious” and “impressive.”

“I liked the energy, and the jokes were funny,” said Leah Baum of Fort Mill High School, one of dozens of theater students brought over for a preview of the show.

Nation Ford senior Jackson Ringley stars as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein in the parody of the horror film genre. (See our Q&A with the Jackson Ringley here.)

The musical is based on the 1974 comedy film of the same name written by Brooks and Gene Wilder and directed by Brooks, who has described it as his best film.

Other lead roles: Student Lily Averkamp is playing Elizabeth Benning, Gracie Bentley is portraying Inga, Isabel Kissel is playing Frau Blücher, and Robby Sewell is portraying Igor.

It also stars Justin Therrell as Inspector Hans Kemp, Jake Short as Ziggy, TreMonte Brown as Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein, Logan Brodfuehrer as The Monster, and Daniel Dávila as The Hermit. The show is directed by Cheri Addison.

“Young Frankenstein” has performances at the Nation Ford High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday-Saturday, March 21-23, and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, March 24. The location is 1400 A.O. Jones Boulevard, Fort Mill, South Carolina 29715. Adult tickets are $10 and student tickets are $8.
