The Fort Mill School district pulled back the curtain Tuesday night on the names and mascots for three new schools.

About 45 students, parents, community members and staff came up with a long list of suggestions as part of a naming committee. Here are the recommendations, which are expected to be approved by school trustees:

Kings Town Knights: Kings Town Elementary School will be the district’s 10th elementary school, located on Masons Bend Drive.

River Trail Otters: River Trail Elementary School will be the district’s 11th elementary school, located on Fort Mill Parkway.

Forest Creek Coyotes: Forest Creek Middle School will be the district’s 6th middle school, located on Whites Road.

The naming committee was formed after more than 90 invitations went out to students, local historians, elected officials and educators. Those who participated were instructed on the area where the school would be located and the history.

Last year, school district voters approved a $190 million bond referendum to pay for three new schools and land for future schools. Plans called for the two elementary schools to open in 2020 and the middle school in 2021.
